Seeking for sexual divisions of labor in past groups: why, how and what are the social implications for today
Az előadás tartalmából:
The sexual division of labor is one of the hallmarks of the human species. It can be found in all groups, and takes different forms, but presents certain aspects that are sometimes considered universal. On the basis of partial and often biased ethnographic records (valuing male activities as seen by male observers), archaeology has often copied current "referential" on societies of the past. In recent years, a re-evaluation of women's activities in the past (history, archaeology) has attempted to rebalance the partial image of prehistoric and historical groups, sometimes falling into caricatural extrapolations. The aim of this paper is to present how, by means of activity-related skeletal changes, we can discuss the sexual division of labor in the past, while taking into account the many limitations inherent in the approach.
